Hey man, interesting videos, I wanted to ask, my dad runs a construction business, they isolate roofs and stuff. It's been quite some time since he started the business. He struggles to find workers, he is not into technical stuff like social media or any technology. Because he lacks manpower he is forced to work there nonstop insteadk of working on the business. He is struggling with finding somewhat decent people, it's not that he needs some specific skill or experience, he just needs someone who can learn and can work even if it's very hot or somewhat cold. I don't think you have a video on how construction owners can find workers so I'm writing here. Thanks

I like a lot of your videos but I think this one with some of the worst advice i've ever heard, especially about contacting the neighbors and asking them if we're doing anything wrong to contact us etc.. Or leaving trash behind and everything that you mentioned... First of all, if you set your standards. Hi, and you don't allow any of that stuff. There would never be a reason for any of that to happen.. And if you're doing that just as a way as a potential contact, it seems somebody deceptive.. So, based off of what you are saying? It sounds like you are possibly working with people or contractors that you really don't know that would potentially do that. And therefore a customer would not want those people in their home anyway

I framed houses for 20 years and now l only do fences and decks porches and other exterior jobs in some states if the job is under 5k you don't need a license and most licensed contractors don't know what thier doing years ago in order to be a GC you needed at least 50 homes under belt before you could even apply for GC and the test is much different for GC than a sub contractor

A general contractor does all the trades electrical plumbing framing duct work roofing ect.and is licensed for all of them.a handyman really just does one trade.

I do $100 for first hour, then $50/hr thereafter. I work 6 days a week, im off to work at 7 and back around 7pm. On average | make 3500/week. Its tough, however the expenses aren't as he puts it here. I spend about $150 in gas per week, $87/month insurance, around 3k in vehicle maintenance per year, $500 license fees. I also own a rental property, which offsets a lot of taxes at the end of the year

I’m 19 and I worked for a union only for a few months, I gotta tell ya. These old cats and contractors ain’t shit but a bunch of loose screws waiting to be kicked out. Were they bad at the job? Fuck no these guys were professionals. Were they egotistic and scared of getting old? A hundred percent. I’ve only had a few group of guys help and teach me the basics and then seen them get shit for it just because they were teaching me. These people don’t give a fuck about you and nothing is ever about team work or helping someone out. It’s survive and eat or get lose everything you have and get ate. People made me look stupid and clueless when all I wanted was just a task to get the work done. But instead these buster ass mothefuckwrs laugh and drink smokin dope all day worried bout the young bulls taking they jobs away from them

  • @DavidSiniawski

Well, it sounds like a lot of money, but it really is not. Materials are really expensive. Gas is really expensive and if you're paying taxes on it, you might as well figure 28 to 30%. You would be lucky if you walked away with $45,000. A lot of these people are calling themselves handy a man. But they're really doing very skilled labor which is more expensive? If you're installing a toilet or doing plumbing or sweating pipe, it's going to be more expensive than putting in a smoke alarm

Also, PLEASE don't do jobs you need a license for if you don't have the license. Our old building manager wanted to fix everything so he could pay himself instead of hiring decent people. He messed stuff up and always showed up high. When he wanted to fix a blown ceiling light, I called the owner and said "This fool's going to burn us all down."

Construction on any scale is very profitable provided you know what you are doing. I’ve been in construction my entire life and I’ve made more than any of the doctors/lawyers I’m friends with. It’s really not rocket science. Pick a trade/s and get good at them. General markup on material should be 20-30% above your cost to account for time/delivery/scheduling. Labor is dependent on the trade but general rule is 75-150hr. I typically offer “discounts” if I’m bundling a lot of work together for a client and I offer a cash discount as well if they are willing to pay in cash. When I started as a “handyman” on my own I was making 500-600 a day just hanging TVs, ceiling fans/lights/pictures and some minor plumbing. Now I basically do everything and I average 1500 a day. Some days are small jobs but then I’ll get a 15k job replacing windows and doors on an entire home for example. The key is just to get started and scale up as you go.

Hey Mike! I’m new to home building but I’ve been in construction for over 15 years. I’ve got the mindset and the drive but how do I find the right processes to effectively and efficiently scale my business. I think I can find the people but I’m not against learning new ways. I believe you can help me.

First of all thank you for this three powerful tips Brother. Secondly, i just want have your thoughts about a construction company I just created last year 2023. After watching this video, you said to be specific on the type of service or product you provided or produced on each marketing strategy and this brings me to my question. My company is a Construction company which has the name construction on it but the type of services we wanted to provide is broad. here is a few services my company provides; 1. waste management control, 2. building & maintenence, 3.general cleaning & beautification, 4.concrete works, 5.street lights installation, 6.road paintings & markings etc... with my company's nature and broadness in services, what is the best way to market my company's services using this THREE TIPS?
